D.A.R.E. PROGRAM

DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION
(609) 884-9518

The City of Cape May Police Department implemented the D.A.R.E. Program in 1992. The program is currently instructed in two elementary schools (Cape May City Elementary School & Our Lady Star of the Sea School). Both schools receive the core lesson program at the 6th grade level. Additional visitation lessons are conducted throughout the various grade levels.

During the 17 week program, students interact with the D.A.R.E. instructor learning various ways to resist the pressure of turning to drug and alcohol use. The instructor allows for role-playing between the students to effectively practice responses used to avoid the temptation of peer pressure.

Our D.A.R.E. instructors commonly participate in other school functions such as, field trips, bicycle safety, gun safety, Halloween safety discussions, use of the emergency 911 system and the Dr. Seuss "Read Across America" program.

All successful students involved in the 17-week program receive a D.A.R.E. T-shirt, which proudly displays the D.A.R.E. graduate logo. Our D.A.R.E. graduation is held at the school with parents, teachers and law enforcement in attendance.

Anyone with questions concerning the D.A.R.E. Program can contact any of our certified instructors at (609) 884-9500.
